    Vaccination Consent Clarification

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have had some questions regarding the vaccination consent for students so we would like to clarify that the consent for COVID-19 vaccinations is separate from the consent for the COVID-19 PCR testing.

Both the vaccination clinics and the testing programs are being handled in partnership with Inspire Diagnostics, but the consent forms are not interchangeable.  This means that even if parents/guardians have already provided consent for testing, they still need to provide consent for the vaccinations.  Here is the link to SVUSD’s vaccination registration/appointment site.  The vaccination clinics which are scheduled to be held at the school sites are only for students ages 5 years through 11 years old because the doses are one-third of the adult dose.

Please direct any questions to the COE Vaccine Support Line at (831) 466-5906.

Update from the Superintendent - November 5th

    Dear Scotts Valley Community,

I hope everyone had a safe Halloween. The outdoor Haunted House at Scotts Valley High School had another successful event this year!  Kudos to the students for their hard work and perseverance.

Please note that next week is the Veterans Day holiday on November 11th, and also minimum days on November 8th, 9th, 10th & 12th at the elementary sites for the TK - 5th grade parent conferences.

Our elementary and middle school staff have been hard at work the last few weeks as they prepare for the end of the trimesters. As mentioned, next week our elementary teachers will begin conferencing with families and sharing where students are at academically and socially. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage in dialogue with teachers to understand where your child is academically and find ways to support them at home. The high school has been supporting seniors in their efforts in applying for colleges, reaching out to students struggling with academics, and hosting an impressive haunted house!  Our middle school is preparing for the end of their trimester and preparing report cards for their students. Students are participating in after school sports, along with other clubs and organizations throughout the week.

Also next week, schools throughout Santa Cruz County will be launching vaccination clinics for students ages 5 through 11. These clinics are held solely for that age group as the dosage is different for them. Attached is information on how to register for a vaccination clinic provided in our district on Friday, November 12 at Scotts Valley High School from 2:30 to 5:00 pm to be followed on Monday, November 15, from 2:50 to 5:00 pm at Scotts Valley Middle School. For elementary students, we are requiring that a parent or guardian accompany their student at the appointment.  For middle school students, as long as the parents have given consent through the registration process, the students are able to attend on their own. The second shots will be administered at the same sites and the same times, three weeks after the initial appointment date. Parents can also choose to go through the drive-through clinics and that information is included in the attached letter as well.  Please be sure to only register for one appointment per child.  We are already noticing duplication which prevents others from registering.  For families choosing to take their children to a doctor, please provide a copy of the vaccination card to your school site. As a reminder, currently student vaccinations are voluntary.

We have a lot of exciting activities and events happening at each of our sites and it has been wonderful to visit classrooms and student activities and observe so many students enjoying themselves.

Over the course of the past few months, many schools have experienced facility damage due to Tic Toc challenges. Beyond that however, we have recently spent thousands of dollars on repairs and replacements for intentional damage in the bathrooms, on the facilities, and primarily in our drainage system as students are flushing items down the toilet that don’t belong there. Unfortunately, this has resulted in restroom closures and the inability to have water in certain areas of some of our campuses. Please talk to your students about this as we are spending district funds and personnel resources in areas that could be better utilized elsewhere.

Next month, we begin our Open Enrollment period for new students for the 2022-23 school year. On December 9th at 6:00 pm we will be hosting an information night at Scotts Valley Middle School about the programs we offer. This information night is also for TK and Kinder, in addition to any new students at any grade level.  Please share with families who have  young children!  More information will be coming out in the next few weeks.

Thank you for all you are doing to support your students.
